David El Sayegh has been named as the new director-general of French labels body Snep, effective June 20.

El Sayegh is currently head of legal affairs at IFPI affiliate Snep, a role he has held since September 2007. Prior to that, he was with French music authors collecting society Sacem for seven years, most recently as deputy director, copyright, Internet & media.

At Snep, El Sayegh will replace Herve Rony, who announced in January that he is stepping down ahead of taking up a role as delegate director of general French multimedia authors collecting organization SCAM. Rony will start at SCAM in January Jan. 2010.

Snep president (and Sony Music France CEO) Christophe Lameignere congratulated El Sayegh on his appointment in a statement. He added: "We want to thank Herve Rony for his outstanding action during 15 years heading Snep, notably during the years of crisis that have been shaking the music business."
