Italy's Italia Love Wave Festival, an outdoor event which has become a feature of the country's summer music calendar, is to pay tribute to Woodstock this year.

The four-day outdoor festival will run in Livorno, Tuscany, July 16-19, one month ahead of Woodstock's 40th anniversary. Fans will be offered free admission on the first day (in the spirit of Woodstock), while that day's program will include a "Woodstock Wave" segment, in which assorted Italian acts (including
Afterhours, Caparezza, Giuliano Palma and Marina Rei) will perform covers of songs made famous at the 1969 festival.

Overseas performers at this year's event include Kraftwerk and Placebo.

The Italia Love Wave Festival, which began life as the "Arezzo Wave" Festival in 1987, has been active in exposing Italian music abroad over the years. Its founders, the Arezzo Wave Foundation, set up an “Italian Music Office" to promote acts overseas and had a partnership with the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas.
