The Cuban veterans of the Buena Vista Social Club head the latest list of European sales awards issued by independent labels trade body Impala.

The 1997 set "Buena Vista Social Club" (World Circuit) has been certified double platinum, marking 1 million shipments across Europe. The act's late vocalist Ibrahim Ferrer was also prominent on the list, with his 1999 World Circuit set "Buena Vista Social Club Presents Ibrahim Ferrer" hitting platinum (500,000 shipments).

Impala has published a 60-strong list of awards, which included platinum certification for the Prodigy's February 2009 album "Invaders Must Die" (Take Me to the Hospital/Cooking Vinyl) and diamond (250,000 shipments) for Placebo's "Battle for the Sun" (PIAS/Dreambrother).

Other strong performers included the Arctic Monkeys, with current album "Humbug" (Domino) being certified gold (100,000) and 2007 sophomore set "Favourite Worst Nightmare" hitting diamond.

The Impala list includes one double platinum award, two platinum, three diamond, 24 gold and 37 silver (30,000). In a statement, Impala said that the number of awards presented "demonstrates impressive performance in the independent sector, especially considering the general economic downturn."
