Germany's ECHO Music Awards will be taking place on March 4, 2010 at the Berlin Fairground.

This was announced today (Nov. 19) in Berlin by the German Phonographic Academy, the cultural institute of the German Federal Music Industry Association (BVMI).

"The 2010 ECHO show will be intimate and glamorous at the same time. We are looking forward to welcoming national and international stars and enjoying outstanding performances," said Prof. Dieter Gorny, CFO of BVMI, in a statement.

Around 3,500 guests will be able to experience the gala live at the Fair Ground next year - a smaller setting than Berlin's O2 World in 2009, which had an audience of 10,000 in February. The ceremony had previously also been held at the Fair Ground in 2007.

However, the larger 2009 event resulted in criticism within the music industry at the size of the ceremony, with many guests also complaining about chaotic conditions at the ensuing party, which was considered to be overcrowded and poorly organized.

As was the case in 2009, the partners for the 19th ECHOs are the production company MME, working under the executive producer for the music industry, former Warner executive Gerd Gebhardt.

Public TV station ARD will be broadcasting the show live from Berlin on March 4.

This will mark the tenth time that Berlin serves as a venue for the ECHOs. They were first awarded in 1992 in a total of 25 categories in Cologne.
