Island Records founder Chris Blackwell will receive the outstanding contribution to U.K. Music honor at the Music Producers Guild Awards next month.

It follows the completion of the 50th anniversary celebrations for Island Records, launched in 1959.

The awards take place on Feb. 11 at the Café de Paris in London.

"The outstanding contribution award acknowledges those who have made a significant contribution over a long period of time to the success of the U.K. music recording industry," said MPG chairman Steve Levine in a statement.

"This may be a producer or engineer, but it can equally be a manager, an A&R person or even a great artist. Chris Blackwell is certainly a worthy recipient and we're delighted to be able to honor him with this award."

Music licensing company PPL is sponsoring this award, which is a new category for 2010.
