U.K. national top 40 station BBC Radio 1 is to air a mid-week sales chart in addition to its weekly chart countdown.

Presenter Greg James will present the "Official Chart Update" from 3.30pm to 4pm every Wednesday, from March 10. It will reveal the big sellers so far as well as high climbers and new entries for singles and albums; the mid-week chart will also be posted online at Radio 1's Web site.

"I've no doubt the 'Official Chart Update' will encourage fans to go out and support their favorite acts, because for the first time they'll really be able to really see the difference they make in the weekly chart battle and then tune in on Sundays to find out who has won," said George Ergatoudis, head of music, BBC Radio 1, in a statement.

The mid-week chart show will be based on the existing early sales data supplied by the Official Charts Company to the labels every week.

The final chart countdown, "The Chart Show," airs every Sunday on Radio 1 from 4pm to 7pm. The BBC said it has an audience of 1.43 million.
