BBC Worldwide Music has confirmed a long-term deal with Universal Music U.K. to distribute all of the major's television content.

Billboard first revealed that a deal had been negotiated in 2009 (Billboard, Aug. 8, 2009) to distribute Universal Music U.K.'s TV content to international broadcasters.

BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the publicly funded U.K. broadcaster, has been working to expand its partnership with record labels. It has already expanded the sale of content from its own music TV programming archives, and the Universal deal signals its new strategy to also distribute labels' audiovisual repertoire to international broadcasters.

The Universal deal will give BBC Worldwide Music the rights to distribute new television content from Universal Music U.K. along with that from a selection of international artists signed through Universal Music Group International. It will be available to buyers later this month.

"We are proud to become distribution partner with the world's biggest record label and are delighted to be representing such a great roster of artists," said Stephen Davies, director of BBC Worldwide Audio & Music, in a statement. "This deal further strengthens our relationship with Universal and, with its promise of more great programming, will take BBC Worldwide Music to a new level as a major music distributor."

BBC Worldwide Music has also secured the international distribution rights to the "Rolling Stones: Exile on Main Street" documentary about the making of the 1972 album.

The deal was announced at the international sales market BBC Showcase in Brighton.
