The German airline Air Berlin and the international media company Kick Media in Cologne have started a joint venture, Follow Me entertainment, based in Cologne.

Follow Me plans to sell music - including repertoire it has developed - and concert tickets on the 167 airplanes of Air Berlin. The company has also signed a deal with Warner Music Group in Hamburg to make Warner releases available to Air Berlin passengers.

The joint venture started last week on an event with classical crossover group Appassionante in Hamburg. The three Italian sopranos, Stefania Francabandiera, Mara Tanchis and Giorgia Villa, have recorded the song "Wings" exclusively for an Air Berlin promotion. An album on the Follow Me label will be released in autumn 2011. Follow me plans to release three albums per year in the beginning, according to the label.

Follow Me Entertainment is planning to sell tickets for the production of Frank Farian's Boney M. musical "Daddy Cool" in Palma de Majorca, which begins its run in April 2011.

Joachim Hunold, CEO Air Berlin, said in a statement: "80% of our 167 aircraft have video equipment on board and almost all our planes have audio connections. We have been paying high license fees for film and music programs that we have used in the past. Together with Kick Media, we now want to produce music and video programs to which we ourselves own the rights. Using these on board Air Berlin aircraft will be a first step in the marketing of those programs.

"We want to generate additional revenue by utilizing further distribution channels. Our website with 6 million visits a month and our printed Air Berlin magazine with 4 million readers are superb marketing instruments for this."

Bernd Dopp, chairman & CEO Warner Music Central & Eastern Europe, added: "We are looking forward to the cooperation with Follow Me Entertainment. The exciting additional possibilities for marketing and distribution for our company and our artists are an innovative way to get our music to the customers."

As one of the leading companies on the European aviation market, Air Berlin carried a total of 27.9 million passengers to 134 destinations around the world in 2009. The group has over 8,200 employees.

Kick Media is a company with a music publishing company with artist management and PR divisions.
