Japan Earthquake Relief Livestream Telethon Taking Place At SXSW Saturday

To raise money and awareness for Japanese earthquake relief efforts, South by Southwest and Hanson are joining forces for a livestream online telethon featuring back-to-back performances and chats by artists at SXSW on Saturday, driving the audience to donate to the Red Cross. The organization is putting out an open call for artists to participate.

Live streaming will start at noon CT on Saturday at http://sxsw4japan.org; some artists will be pre-recorded today at a studio at 8th & Congress in Austin, so people can either come in and pre-record a performance Friday or perform live on Saturday. The studio is fully equipped with backline and arrangements can be made for whatever additional gear is needed.

The first round of artists scheduled for Friday include John "JoJo" Hermann of Widespread Panic, the Boxer Rebellion, North Mississippi Allstars, Charlie Mars, Bowling For Soup, AWOLNATION, Rayland Baxter, Andy Grammer, and Mike Mills of R.E.M, with more expected.

Songs from the project can be recorded and delivered to iTunes to be sold as a part of a benefit project; for artists who can't participate but would like to help, there will be an embeddable player that they can post on their web properties, tweet about and otherwise promote.

Artists interested in participating should contact 3CG's Rebecca Sarkar at rebeccas@3cgrecords.com.
