Adele, Bruno Mars, Black Eyed Peas Among Nominees for Germany's Echo Awards

International acts Lady Gaga, Adele, Coldplay, Bruno Mars and Amy Winehouse are among the nominees for the 2012 German ECHO music awards to be held on March 22 at the Berlin fair ground. The nominees were announced yesterday (Feb. 1) by the German Phonoakademie, the cultural institute of the German Music Industry Association (BVMI) in Berlin.

US singer Lana Del Rey, Belgian-Australian shooting star Gotye, New Zealand singer Kimbra and German band Silbermond are scheduled to perform live. Produced by the German television company Werner Kimmig GmbH from Oberkirch, the show will be hosted by German female singers Barbara Schöneberger and Ina Müller. The German TV channel ARD will broadcast the ECHO 2012 show live.

German ECHO Classical Music Awards Set For Oct. 14

Vying for the male International Artist, Rock/Pop category are Chris de Burgh, Lenny Kravitz, Bruno Mars, Milow and James Morrison, while the female category is composed of Adele, Caro Emerald, Lady Gaga, Zaz and the late Amy Winehouse. Nominees for the Best International Band are Coldplay, Roxette, Snow Patrol, Sunrise Avenue and SuperHeavy.

"The German ECHO music award is one of the most important music awards in the world. Internationally, ECHO takes its place with the Grammy or the BRIT Awards", says Dieter Gorny, CEO of the German Phonoakademie.

German Music Sales Stabilized in 2011

The first ECHO German music awards were presented in 1992 in Cologne. Each year the German Phonoakademie honors outstanding and successful works of national and international music artists.
