Each Friday, Billboard presents Tomorrow's Hits, a weekly look at new and noteworthy acts making their way toward Billboard chart success. Up this week: the Madden Brothers, Milky Chance and Mike Jay
The Madden Brothers
After leading pop/punksters Good Charlotte to three top 10 Billboard 200 albums in 2002-07, the Madden Brothers (twins Joel and Benji) blast back with "Greetings From California…," due Oct. 7 (Capitol). Retro-soulful lead single "We Are Done" is already bubbling under at top 40 and alternative radio, with major-market play from KIIS and KYSR Los Angeles. The album includes two notable co-writes: the brothers penned "California Rain" and "Abbey" with their friend Pharrell Williams. "We went to see Pharrell because he's someone we really love and respect," Joel says. "Benji brought an acoustic guitar and Pharrell recognized that we wanted to make classic, California rock & roll and drew comparisons to the Eagles, which inspired us even more. We wrote 'California Rain' together that night."
"Stolen Dance," the debut Republic single from German duo Milky Chance, aka vocalist Clemens Rehbeinand and DJ Philipp Dausch, debuts on Hot Rock Songs at No. 36. Available for more than a year, the folk/pop/electronic mélange has already won over international audiences, reaching No. 1 in Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, Switzerland and France. Its official video has drawn 38 million worldwide YouTube views.
Detroit-born R&B singer/songwriter Mike Jay is gaining traction at mainstream R&B/hip-hop radio with his erotic single "Birthday Suit" (Capitol). The now-Los Angeles-based 22-year-old dropped his debut collection "The Mike Jay EP" May 13 and is currently working on a full-length. Jay has gained acclaim as a writer, notably having co-penned Chris Brown's 2012 Billboard Hot 100 top 10 "Turn Up the Music."
