Lorde's 'Royals' Remains Atop Hot 100

Lorde's "Royals" rules the Billboard Hot 100 for a second week, rises to the top of the On-Demand Songs chart and takes top Airplay Gainer honors on the Hot 100 for a second frame.
 
The song's continued reign adds to Lorde's big week, as her debut full-length album "Pure Heroine" debuts on the Billboard 200 at No. 3.
 
Plus, Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" blasts into the Hot 100 Airplay top 10, Ylvis' "The Fox" crowns Streaming Songs and Britney Spears' "Work B**ch!" zooms toward the Hot 100's top 10.
 
As always, let's run down the Hot 100's top 10 and more.
 
"Royals" rises 2-1 on the subscription services-based On-Demand Songs ranking with 2.8 million on-demand U.S. streams, according to Nielsen BDS. The activity helps push the cut 5-3 on the overall Streaming Songs chart (7.6 million U.S. streams, up 24%).
 
"Royals" tops Hot Digital Songs for a third week with 309,000 downloads sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. With its latest frame, the cut passes 2 million in download sales so far (2.16 million). The track also edges closer to the Hot 100 Airplay chart's summit, lifting 4-2 with the survey's biggest gain (up 12% to 143 million audience impressions, according to BDS).
 
"Royals" tops the Hot Rock Songs chart for a sixth week.
 
Lorde's debut hit fends off Katy Perry's former two-week Hot 100 No. 1 "Roar" for a second week (2-2). The latter track spends a third frame atop Hot 100 Airplay (167 million, down 1%), holds at No. 2 on Hot Digital Songs (218,000, down 9%) and slips 4-5 on Streaming Songs (6.2 million, down 2%). "Roar," meanwhile, extends records on two airplay charts: It holds atop Mainstream Top 40 and Adult Top 40 with the highest weekly plays totals (16,065 and 5,309, respectively) in each list's history, improving upon last week's record-setting  sums.
 
The Hot 100 race between "Royals" and "Roar" wasn't as close as last week, when their respective points totals were separated by a less than 1% margin. This week, "Royals" wins by a much more comfortable 19% difference.
 
Perry concurrently debuts at No. 34 on the Hot 100 with "Walking on Air," another preview song from her album Prism, due Oct. 22. The cut begins on Hot Digital Songs at No. 8 (113,000). Two weeks ago, fellow Prism track "Dark Horse" (featuring Juicy J) started on the Hot 100 at No. 17 and Hot Digital Songs at No. 4 (194,000); this week, it descends 8-10 on Hot Digital Songs (99,000, down 5%).
 
As previously reported, with "Roar," "Air" and "Horse" in the Hot Digital Songs top 10 simultaneously, Perry is the first artist with three concurrent titles in the bracket since Taylor Swift almost a year ago.
 
Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball," like "Roar" a former two-week No. 1, stays at No. 3 on the Hot 100 and becomes her fastest-flying top 10 on Hot 100 Airplay. The song bounds 17-10 in its fourth week on the latter chart, soaring by 25% to 64 million. Cyrus reached the Hot 100 Airplay top 10 twice before, both times in 2009, with the No. 7-peaking "The Climb," which took 12 weeks to enter the region, and the No. 8 hit "Party in the U.S.A." (seven weeks).
 
"Ball" drops 1-2 after three weeks atop Streaming Songs (11.4 million, down 3%) and keeps at No. 3 on Hot Digital Songs (which it led three weeks ago) with 214,000 downloads sold (down 3%).
 
Cyrus, who hosted and served as the musical guest on NBC's "Saturday Night Live" over the weekend (Oct. 5), will make further news next week when her debut RCA album Bangerz, released yesterday, will arrive on the Billboard 200.
 
Avicii's "Wake Me Up!" returns to its highest Hot 100 rank (5-4). It rises 6-3 on Hot 100 Airplay (127 million, up 8%) and dominates Dance/Electronic Songs for a fifth week.
 
Drake's "Hold On, We're Going Home" (featuring Majid Jordan) dips 4-5 on the Hot 100, although with top Digital Gainer kudos (131,000 downloads sold). It bullets at No. 5 on Hot 100 Airplay for a third week with a 2% advance to 122 million and rules Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for a second week.
 
Ylvis' novelty tune "The Fox" jumps 8-6 on the Hot 100 with across-the-board gains and its first coronation on a domestic Billboard chart. The song from the Norwegian comedy duo rises 2-1 on Streaming Songs (12.4 million, up 30%, good for Hot 100's top Streaming Gainer nod for the second time in three weeks). It also bumps 15-12 on Hot Digital Songs (86,000, up 18%). Airplay is lagging behind the song's viral video and sales activity, but it climbs to 1.9 million in all-format audience (from 1.3 million), with Warner Bros. now promoting the song to pop radio stations.
 
Jay Z's "Holy Grail" (featuring Justin Timberlake) descends 6-7 on the Hot 100, while racking a 10th week at No. 1 on Rap Songs, and Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" (featuring T.I. and Pharrell) drops 7-8.
 
Rounding out the Hot 100's top 10, Lady Gaga's "Applause" holds at No. 9 but increases by 5% to 84 million in listenership, bulleting again at No. 9 on Hot 100 Airplay. Lana Del Rey & Cedric Gervais' "Summertime Sadness" likewise repeats its rank from last week (10-10).
 
Just outside the Hot 100's top tier, Britney Spears' "Work B**ch!" rebounds 41-13, nearly matching its No. 12 peak posted upon its debut two weeks ago. Following the premiere of its official video on Oct. 1, the song re-enters Streaming Songs at No. 10 (3.9 million, up 296%) and vaults 22-14 on Hot Digital Songs (76,000, up 50%), while bulleting again at No. 47 on Hot 100 Airplay (28 million, up 6%).
