“Fusion” will be the name of the new ABC/Univision news and lifestyle network, set to launch in the second half of 2013. The joint venture operation will feature programming in English for U.S. Hispanics. Plans for the network were announced last year, but the venture had yet to be named.
Although deals are still in progress, several major cable distributors -- including AT&T U-verse, Cox, Charter and Cablevision -- have already agreed to carry the network at launch, making it available in millions of households.
As the New York Times reports, Univision and executives from Disney, ABC's corporate parent, first sat down at the negotiating table nearly two years ago, in March 2011.
Fusion is based in Miami, and programming will be specifically geared toward English-dominant Hispanics in this country.
