After a closed-door sale earlier this year -- which according, to the Local East Village, the ownership of the CBGB brand was apparently split between an unnamed party and the daughter of deceased owner Harry Kristal, Lisa Kristal (who had emerged from a protracted, and acrimonious, legal battle against her brother, Dana Kristal, over ownership of the brand) -- the long-shuttered legend of CBGB's seems poised to return this July 4-8 with a multi-pronged festival of shows, workshops, films, and parties across Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. On its face the fest appears similar in scope, though not scaled, to the annual CMJ Music Marathon.
Details are scant, except for a single graphic and a short, lofty, press release on the SonicBids website, where the organizers are sending bands to apply for a spot on the fest's bill.
"The CBGB Festival will produce one of New York's largest and most energetic music events in recent history . Rounding out the festival will be hundreds of performances, showcase concerts and music themed filmed parties & events in all five boros [sic] of NYC with a special focus on the Lower East Side & Brooklyn."
The source code of the CBGB website shows that the graphic is hosted by Productions New York, whose previous projects include the launch of Pulsar Oral-B toothbrush. The company's website doesn't appear to have received an update since 2010.
