MTV today announced a new initiative to expand and unify its hip-hop music and lifestyle content across its multiple platforms under the MTV Jams brand. MTV Jams, which was formerly a 24-hour digital channel, will now be extended to all MTV properties, including MTV, MTV2 and MTV.com.
The MTV Jams' plan will include the following: the launch of MTVJams.com, a new digital hub for all of MTV's hip-hop content; a new weekly series on MTV2 called "The Week in Jams" (formerly "Sucker Free Countdown"); new hip-hop experts who will join MTV News' Sway Calloway across all MTV brands; and the media sponsorship of Trey Songz's upcoming Chapter V tour featuring Miguel.
MTV Jams, which launched in 2008, was a 24-hour digital music channel devoted exclusively to hip-hop music videos and programming. The channel now reaches nearly 29 million homes and has 100k Twitter followers.
"MTV has been a pioneer and leader in expanding hip-hop culture from a regional movement in the early 80s to a cultural powerhouse that now extends across all ages, races and regions, and has truly crossed over into a lifestyle more than just a genre of music," said Amy Doyle, EVP of MTV's music & talent programming strategy, in a statement. "We're once again looking to innovate in the space to make hip-hop artists and culture more accessible to its large psychographic fan base than ever before."
Beginning Oct. 23, the new digital hub for all MTV's hip-hop content will launch at Jams.MTV.com and will include hip-hop news, interviews, blog posts, digital video premieres and playlists, as well commentary and packages from the cast of "The Week in Jams." MTVJams.com will be deeply integrated with MTV's recently announced artist platform, Artists.MTV.

MTV has recruited a new team of contributors for "The Week in Jams" that will include DJ Envy, Charlamagne Tha God, Sofi Green, Maestro and Nessa. They will join MTV's resident hip-hop expert and longtime News Correspondent Sway Calloway.
MTV will celebrate the premiere of "The Week in Jams" on Saturday, Oct. 13 with a "Hip Hop Homecoming" movie marathon.
Though it is just launching, MTV also announced that MTV Jams will be the media sponsor for Trey Songz's upcoming Chapter V tour featuring Miguel, promoting the tour across its platforms and debuting exclusive content from Trey and Miguel.
