Digital music service Rdio continues its global expansion with a newly announced strategic partnership with media company Shaw Communications, the companies announced on Thursday.

The marketing, content and promotion pact that will aim to grow Rdio's presence in the Canadian market. As part of the deal, Shaw Ventures has made a financial investment in Rdio's holding company, Pulser Media. Shaw Media operates Canadian TV network Global Television and 19 specialty networks, including HGTV Canada and Food Network Canada.

"Canada is Rdio's second largest market and is a huge priority for us. As one of the most diverse countries in the world, Canada has a rich and varied musical landscape of musicians and music-lovers, so we're very excited to align with Shaw to become the top music service in Canada," Rdio CEO Anthony Bay said in a statement.

Shaw Communications CEO Brad Shaw added: "As Canada's leading network and content experience company, we believe our customers should have access to the best content available. Rdio is the best available digital streaming music experience and a great complement to our leading broadband and Shaw Go WiFi services. Our partnership with Rdio will develop great offers that will enable Shaw customers and everyone across the country to enjoy this service."

Earlier this week, Rdio joined forces with Brazilian media conglomerate Grupo Bandeirantes. The latter will grow its online music presence with the Rdio and promote the music streaming service across its print, television, and radio media properties.

Rdio Acquires Shuttered Indian Streaming Service Dhingana

Brazil has the third-largest market for Rdio, which recently acquired shuttered Indian streaming service Dinghana as part of a global expansion plan following its dissociation from music intelligence platform the Echo Nest (which was purchased by Rdio competitor Spotify).

Rdio, launched in San Francisco by a co-founder of Skype in 2010, has a library of 30 million songs currently available in 51 countries and has previously stated that 57% of its monthly active users now come from outside of the U.S.
