A Kickstarter campaign for player pre-orders doubled its goal in less than 24 hours, with more than 5,000 “backers” ponying up $1.6 million for the music players, due out in October. “That’s a significant accomplishment,” Young told Billboard at Austin’s bucolic Hotel St. Cecilia. “It’s hard to ignore that there seems to be a market there for what we’re offering.”

RDIO 'TRANSITIONING AWAY' FROM SPOTIFY-OWNED ECHO NEST (SOURCE)

Rdio will mostly likely not renew its business ties with The Echo Nest following Spotify's announced acquisition last week of the music intelligence platform. The music streaming site will be "transitioning away" from The Echo Nest, but not dropping them right away, according to a source knowledgable with the arrangement.

GRACE ACQUIRES RIGHTS TO THE BEATLES' MUSIC CATALOG

Filmmaker Josh Wakely’s production company, Grace, has acquired the worldwide rights to the Beatles’ music catalog in an agreement with Sony/ATV Music Publishing. Grace will have the rights to the group’s song catalog for an animated children’s series called “Beat Bugs.” The series will be based on the original characters and world created by Wakely.
