Two weeks ahead of Britney Spears’ opening residency performance at Las Vegas’ Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on Dec. 27, parent company Caesars Entertainment has named Live Nation the exclusive booker of the resort’s newly renovated 7,000-seat theater.
The multi-year deal calls for Live Nation to exclusively book and market the venue -- newly named The AXIS -- and work closely with Caesars Entertainment to secure future residency headliners, touring acts and comedians. The agreement includes Spears’ two-year residency at The AXIS, which will be scaled down to 4,600-capacity for those performances.
“Planet Hollywood has been an important addition to our Las Vegas portfolio and plays a pivotal role in our entertainment strategy for the city,” Caesars Entertainment chairman/CEO Gary Loveman said in a statement. “Not only will the AXIS provide concert-goers with a one-of-a-kind experience inside a unique setting, our partnership with Live Nation will ensure we deliver the type of A-List entertainment programming that will solidify the venue’s reputation as a ‘must see’ entertainment destination.”
Caesars Entertainment also owns the 4,000-capacity Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Since opening in 2003, the Colosseum has been exclusively booked by Live Nation rival AEG Live. The facility -- which over the years has hosted successful residencies by Cher, Celine Dion, Bette Midler, Elton John, Rod Stewart and Shania Twain -- consistently ranks among Billboard Boxscore’s top-grossing facilities in its capacity class. In 2013, the Colosseum grossed $87.6 million from 162 shows, according to Boxscore.
Caesars Entertainment says the redesign of The AXIS combines the nightclub experience with the feel of a live entertainment venue. The venue will include a dance floor and VIP table seating. As previously reported, Spears’ nightclub-esque “Piece of Me” residency will feature traditional seating, a dance floor, private tables and bottle service. Drai’s Management Group has been tapped as the exclusive beverage service provider for The AXIS and global architectural firm Gensler oversaw the renovation of the theater.
“We have no doubt that the AXIS will be considered the top venue of its size and with dramatic impact,” Caesars Entertainment senior VP of marketing and entertainment said in a statement. “With all of the right partners in place, this will be the theater’s most thrilling chapter yet and we’re looking forward to opening it to the world on Dec. 27.”
