The movie headlined a motherlode of films and TV projects primarily featuring African-American casts. And these projects -- including VH1's "CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story" and early Academy Award favorite "12 Years a Slave" -- provided new and renewed exposure for R&B/hip-hop artists.
