Pearl Jam Heading for Fifth No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 With 'Lightning Bolt'

Pearl Jam is on course for its fifth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart. The band's latest album, "Lighting Bolt," will sell between 170,000 and 180,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on Oct. 20, industry sources say.

That should easily be enough to top next week's Billboard 200 chart, the top 10 of which will be unveiled on Oct. 23.

The current No. 1 album, Miley Cyrus' "Bangerz," will likely not be a threat to Pearl Jam's potential chart-topping bow. If “Bangerz” sales drop by 68%-80% in its second week (as have the last four No. 1-debuting albums), then it will sell perhaps 55,000 to 86,000.

Pearl Jam has previously topped the Billboard 200 with "Backspacer" (2009), "No Code" (1996), "Vitalogy" (1994) and "Vs." (1993). They've also notched four No. 2-peaking albums with "Ten" (1992), "Yield" (1998), "Binaural" (2000) and "Pearl Jam" (2006).

The group's last studio effort, 2009's "Backspacer," debuted with 189,000 in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

After Pearl Jam, the week's next-largest debut will come from Paul McCartney, as his "New" album might move around 70,000. Depending on how the rest of the week shakes out, the set could launch at No. 2 on the tally, which would mark his highest-charting studio album since 1997's "Flaming Pie" also debuted (and peaked) at No. 2.

Also on tap for significant debuts: Avett Brothers' "Magpie and the Dandelion" with perhaps 60,000 and Scotty McCreery's "See You Tonight" with 40,000.
