In a move that surprised many in the radio industry, CBS Radio senior VP of programming Greg Strassell exited his position on Monday after more than 15 years with the company.

During his time at CBS, Strassell oversaw many format changes at CBS Radio, including the addition of a second mainstream top 40 station in such markets as New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Boston.

Strassell is an award-winning program director at CBS' Boston stations, including classic hits (and later mainstream top 40) WODS, classic rock WZLX and adult top 40 WBMX. During his time there he won awards for "Station Of The Year" and "Program Director Of The Year." In 2012, Strassell was awarded "Corporate Senior Programmer Of The Year" at the Worldwide Radio Summit.

Other stations Strassell has programmed include WLOL in Minneapolis and WROK in Rockford, Ill.

CBS Radio executive VP Chris Oliviero praised Strassell for "his passion and dedication to our radio stations and ... fellow programmers." Oliviero added, I have enjoyed partnering with him to build an outstanding portfolio of stations and world class brands."
