Carrie Underwood has been named as one of the honorees for the 38th annual Honors Gala, an event organized by the T.J. Martell Foundation scheduled to take place at the Cipriani on October 22. Underwood will receive the 2013 Artist Achievement Award, and joins the list of previously announced honorees including CITI's SVP of entertainment marketing Jennifer Breithaupt (receiving the Spirit of Music Award), Clear Channel president John Sykes (receiving the Lifetime Music Industry Achievement Award), Steiner Sports CEO Brandon Steiner (receiving the Humanitarian of the Year Award) and Target Corporation (receiving the Spirit of Excellence Award).
The T.J. Martell Foundation, founded by Tony Martell in honor of his son, has raised over $250 million dollars since its founding in 1975, earmarked for research across twelve hospitals in the United States.
"When I started this Foundation with several of my peers in the music and entertainment business in honor of my son T.J., I wanted to do all that I could to make sure other families would not have to suffer the way my family did," write Tony Martell in a statement. "We are thrilled to honor Carrie Underwood with this year’s Artist Achievement Award."
