Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Ricardo Arjona will tape an "MTV Unplugged" special in November for the U.S. Hispanic network Tr3s.

The showcase will feature the Guatemalan crooner, known as a force who regularly fills large stadiums in Latin America while also enjoying a thriving career in the United States.

"For our 'Unplugged' [franchise] we look for those really big headline names that can really move a market," says Marc Zimet, Tr3s' VP of talent and music. "This seemed like the last missing piece of his puzzle and we were more than happy to extend the offer to him and fortunately for us he agreed."

Tr3s executives are scheduled to announce the Arjona project during the network's upfront event in New York later today (May 15). The presentation will also include a special performance by Daddy Yankee.

For the "Unplugged" special, Arjona will perform some of his biggest hits in acoustic style. The show will be taped for television and recorded for an album release. Fernando Gaston will serve as executive producer. Previous "Unplugged" acts include Colombian singer Juanes and Mexican act Los Tigres del Norte.

Arjona made headlines in 2011 when he decided to go independent with his own label. Soon after he was selling out arenas. He owns and oversees his label Metamorfosis, which includes a staff working in both Latin America and the U.S. Last year Arjona also signed bilingual singer/songwriter Gaby Moreno to his label.
Tr3s executives are also scheduled to present upcoming shows during their upfront, including "En Tour," a behind-the-scenes program that follows acts closely while on tour. Puerto Rican reggaeton duo Wisin & Yandel were featured on the program in the spring.

Tr3s is owned and operated by Viacom International Media Networks -- The Americas, a unit of Viacom, Inc.
