Sub Pop’s Jubilee
Sub Pop is turning 25 this year, so naturally it’s time for a big blowout party in honor of fading youth. The legendary Seattle label announced its Silver Jubilee on Wednesday, a one-day festival to take place July 13 in the Seattle neighborhood of Georgetown.
The announced lineup for the festival so far includes Mudhoney, Father John Misty, Shabazz Palaces with THEESatisfaction, Pissed Jeans, Shearwater, Brothers of the Sonic Cloth (featuring Tad Doyle), the Baptist Generals, and Endino’s Earthworm. More bands (perhaps including the reunited Postal Service, which happens to have July 13 free on its tour calendar?) and comedy acts will be announced soon.
The Silver Jubilee will be free to the public and open to all ages, with food and drinks provided by local vendors. A $5 donation will grant attendants a commemorative tote bag with proceeds going to 90.3 FM KEXP and local charities, including Northwest Harvest and the Northwest Parkinson’s Association.
Caroline to Sponsor 2nd Annual Libera Awards
Caroline Distribution, the Capitol Music Group owned independent distributor and label services provider, has joined the American Association of Independent Music as a sponsor of this year’s Libera Awards. The award ceremony honoring outstanding achievement in independent music will take place for the second time on June 20 in New York.
Caroline, which distributes labels including Mute and Stones Throw Records, is celebrating its 30th anniversary and was recently re-launched as a full-services partner company for indie labels. The Libby Awards will serve as the culmination of Indie Music Week (June 18-20) at the Highline Ballroom.
Redeye to Release New Album by CocoRosie
Redeye Distribution will distribute the forthcoming album by French experimental pop sister duo CocoRosie.
Tales of a Grass Widow, the group’s fifth album and first since 2010’s “Grey Oceans,” is being self-released by members Sara and Bianca Casady on May 28.
In other distribution deals, Redeye announced it would also issue albums from Hem, Dead Confederates and BJ Thomas. The latter artist will issue a duets album consisting of 12 reworked versions of some of his most popular songs. Entitled "The Living Room Sessions” on his own Wrinkled Records label, the album will feature such singers as Vince Gill, Keb' Mo', Lyle Lovett, Richard Marx, Fray lead singer Isaac Slade and Steve Tyrell.
