Deal covers more than a dozen albums

Napster has inked a deal with Universal Music Group for a two-week exclusive on digital distribution of Tom Petty's MCA catalog, Bulletin has learned. The material has previously not been available for online distribution.

Petty's MCA catalog comprises more than a dozen albums, including "Full Moon Fever," "Into the Great Wide Open" and "Damn the Torpedoes."

Digital services are increasingly seeking deals to obtain exclusive content, especially as key acts make their material available online for the first time. Rhapsody this summer scored a two-week exclusive on digital distribution of certain material by the Rolling Stones.
