Digital Rights Agency (DRA), a distributor of independent music to digital music services, has received an equity investment of an undisclosed amount from SXSW Inc., the company behind the South by Southwest music conference.

As part of the deal, San Francisco-based DRA will serve as a sponsor of the conference, to be held March 17-21 in Austin.

"We invested in DRA because we believe that DRA is the best way for our constituency of labels and artists to move quickly into the digital distribution arena, under the best terms possible," says Roland Swenson, CEO and founder of SXSW.

DRA distributes music from more than 60 independent labels to the likes of Napster, Rhapsody, MusicNet, MusicMatch, SoNet (a Sony-run subscription service in Japan), Audio Lunchbox (an all-indie download site), Liquid Digital Media and Virgin Mobile USA.
