Van Morrison is to headline the opening night of the inaugural Blenheim Palace Music Festival, set for July 1-3 in the Great Court at English stately home Blenheim Palace in Woodstock, northwest of Oxford.

Morrison and special guest Joan Armatrading will play the first night. Rising smooth-jazz crooner Jamie Cullum will headline the second night, supported by Katie Melua, currently No. 1 on the U.K. albums chart with her debut "Call Off the Search" (Dramatica). The third night will feature the London Symphony Orchestra playing "The Music of Hollywood." Capacity for each night is set at 10,000.

The promoter for the event is London-based Andrew Miller Promotions. "We have put together a wonderful bill to suit music lovers of all ages," says managing director Andrew Miller. "Blenheim is one of the country's most spectacular palaces, and I am thrilled to be involved in the very first music festival in its grounds."
