As first revealed in Billboard in January, Sony Music International (SMI) confirmed today that Martin Dodd is joining the company as senior VP of worldwide A&R. Based in London and in New York, he reports to SMI president Rick Dobbis.

SMI says Dodd will work with the company's labels throughout the world to discover artists and develop them locally and internationally. He is also expected to work closely with Sony's established acts.

In the past two years, Danish-born Dodd has worked with Endemol TV, BMG and Clear Channel on the development of TV formats such as "Fame Academy," "Star Academy" and Spain's "Operacion Triunfo." He also acted as A&R consultant for Jive Records in New York and from 1992-2002 served as senior VP of A&R for Zomba Europe, working with such acts as Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears and 'N Sync. He was instrumental in setting up and overseeing the Cheiron Production Facility in Stockholm, a joint venture between Zomba and producers Dennis Pop and Max Martin.

Dodd, who had been in talks with BMG and other companies, says, "I've had a long-standing respect and admiration for Rick Dobbis from his days at PolyGram in Europe, and when he presented me the opportunity for us to work together, it was the right time and the right company."
