BMG Music Publishing has launched a dedicated consultancy service in Europe for companies that use music in films and TV programming. The new division, Synctank, will offer a comprehensive music sourcing service that includes a free online "search and listen" facility at bmgmusicsearch.com.
In addition, there will be tailor-made CD samplers, which will provide ideas for specific projects at the client's request, full project management support and fast-track licensing. The licensing service will be centrally coordinated from London, but there will be Synctank representatives in each of BMG Music Publishing's European offices to handle local licensing issues.
Music users will have direct access to BMG's catalog of nearly 1 million songs, including tracks by Coldplay, Robbie Williams, the Bee Gees, Nelly, Edith Piaf, Ravel and Puccini.
Synctank will be jointly headed by Dave Bartram, BMG Music Publishing's U.K. media and marketing manager, and Chris Graves, the company's U.K. film and TV manager. Both will report to Steve Levy, head of global marketing for BMG Music Publishing International.
"The launch of our new Synctank division will see us taking a much more proactive, client-led approach to licensing songs for use in third-party visual media," says Levy. "In a move which we believe is unique for a music publisher, we are giving clients unprecedented direct access to our songwriters and our huge catalog through a menu of online and personalised services."
