Canadian music-industry pioneer Walter Grealis, who passed away Jan. 20, will be honored with the Walt Grealis Special Achievement Award during the Juno Awards on April 3 in Edmonton, Alberta.

Canadian music-industry pioneer Walter Grealis, who passed away Jan. 20, will be honored with the Walt Grealis Special Achievement Award during the Juno Awards on April 3 in Edmonton, Alberta.

The Grealis award recognizes individuals who have contributed to the growth and development of the Canadian music industry. Previous recipients include broadcaster Allan Waters, promoter Sam Feldman, composer Louis Applebaum and record-association executive Brian Robertson.

A special segment dedicated to Grealis will be featured during the Juno Award telecast the following night. Grealis published the Canadian music trade RPM Weekly from 1964-2000 and was a key figure in establishing the Juno Awards.
