David Bowie and the Darkness are set to headline this year's Oxegen music festival in Ireland. The two-day outdoor event, previously known as the Witnness Festival, will take place July 10-11 at the Punchestown Racecourse, near Naas, County Kildare.

News of the Darkness' headlining appearance comes just days after the rockers dominated the 2004 Brit Awards. Bowie should also prove a major draw, having sold out two Dublin shows last November in a matter of minutes. More than 80 acts are expected to be announced for this year's festival, spread out over five stages.

The name change from Witnness to Oxegen was precipitated by Heineken taking over the lead sponsorship of the event from Guinness. The festival is to be promoted by Dublin-based MCD. Tickets are expected to go on sale on March 5.
