A High Court judge in Durban, South Africa, yesterday (March 3) found Nkosinathi Shabalala, the son of Ladysmith Black Mambazo leader Joseph, not guilty of murdering his stepmother Nellie.

A High Court judge in Durban, South Africa, yesterday (March 3) found Nkosinathi Shabalala, the son of Ladysmith Black Mambazo leader Joseph, not guilty of murdering his stepmother Nellie.

Shabalala was also acquitted of conspiracy to commit murder and two counts of attempted murder. His co-accused, Mboneni Mdunge, was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Nellie Shabalala was shot and killed on the driveway of her Claremont, Durban home on May 15, 2002.

Joseph Shabalala and his group of a cappella singers have recently released through Heads Up the album "Wenyukela," which in Zulu means "Raise Your Spirit Higher." The group, which has won multiple South African Music Awards, is currently on a North American tour.
