Matt Oppenheim has joined Chicago-based law firm Jenner & Block as a partner. Oppenheim was senior VP of business and legal affairs at the RIAA; he will be replaced in that role by Stanley Pierre-Louis, a lawyer who has been with the trade group since 1999.

Oppenheim, who joined the RIAA in 1998, was the chief litigator at the industry body, where he worked on copyright-infringement lawsuits against Napster, Aimster, Grokster and other Internet companies, as well as actions against various CD manufacturing plants and retailers. He has also served as a spokesman for the Secure Digital Music Initiative and helped negotiate the DVD-Audio standard.

In his new role, Oppenheim will be a member of Jenner & Block's entertainment and new media practice and will work closely with its intellectual property and technology practice.
