EMI Group has narrowly missed promotion into the FTSE 100 blue-chip index in London. A spokesperson at FTSE Group, which conducted a review of the index today (March 10), says EMI's market capitalization ranks it at No. 102 among Britain's biggest companies. EMI will continue to be listed in the FTSE 250 index until the next quarterly review.

EMI's stock has been on the rise since the turn of the year, hitting a high of 280p during trading earlier this week. Eighteen months earlier, the company's share price dropped as low as 78p, prompting its removal from the FTSE 100 at the end of September 2002.

EMI stock closed today down 2.66% at 265.25p.
