Apple says it has sold more than 50 million songs through the iTunes Music Store since its bow last April. The digital-music service reached the milestone last Thursday (March 11).

Apple says it has sold more than 50 million songs through the iTunes Music Store since its bow last April. The digital-music service reached the milestone last Thursday (March 11).

Reported sales figures do not include songs redeemed as part of Apple's download giveaway promotion with Pepsi.

Apple says iTunes users are now downloading 2.5 million songs per week, which would work out to an annual rate of 130 million songs per year.

iTunes claims a catalog of over 500,000 songs, including exclusive tracks from more than 150 artists.
