Sources say that all R&B, hip-hop and crossover releases from Universal Music Group's Interscope Geffen A&M (IGA) division will now be promoted by one staff. The promotion team will be under the direction of longtime Interscope executive Step Johnson. Geffen urban promotion execs Garnett March and Doug Daniel are said to be part of the new team.

Eight positions have been eliminated, sources say, including promotion veteran Don Eason and rhythmic crossover chief Tom Maffei. Senior Interscope executive Howard Geiger is said to have joined Universal-distributed Blackground Records as GM.

Details could not be confirmed at deadline. An IGA spokesperson did not return calls at press time.

IGA artists include Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Avant and the Roots. The restructuring follows Geffen's recent absorption of DreamWorks and Polly Anthony's appointment as Geffen co-president along with Jordan Schur.
