Prince has signed a worldwide P&D deal for his "Musicology" album with Sony Music Entertainment. The album will come out in the United States on April 20 on NPG/Columbia.

The album, which will likely carry an $18.98 list price, should prove an interesting sell at stores, since the artist is also giving away the album for free as part of the ticket price for fans who attend his concerts.

As previously reported, Prince's March 29 date at the Staples Center in L.A. will be broadcast to Regal Entertainment Theaters in 43 U.S. markets, and fans who buy tickets for the cinema showings will receive the album as part of the package. That version of the album will come with a white slip cover, while the Sony copy will come in a full package, including artwork.

The deal is said to offer Sony the possibility to work with the artist on future albums. In 2001, he pacted with Sony's RED Distribution for the album "The Rainbow Children."

Prince's last two albums, both on NPG, were distributed to U.S. retail by Big Daddy Distribution.
