Independent music distributor the Orchard has forged a marketing and promotion partnership with Toolshed Inc., a digital marketing and licensing service provider focused on independent music.

Independent music distributor the Orchard has forged a marketing and promotion partnership with Toolshed Inc., a digital marketing and licensing service provider focused on independent music.

Toolshed founder/CEO Dick Huey will serve as a marketing consultant to the Orchard. Producer Richard Gottehrer, founder and chairman of the Orchard, will provide services to Toolshed clients. The services will be extended to labels and individual artists.

The Orchard distributes more than 130,000 tracks from 2,500 labels; Toolshed clients include Beggars Group, Kill Rock Stars, Jet Set Records, Righteous Babe and spinART Records.

"Dick has been very involved in the independent music/new media space for a long time," says Orchard CEO Greg Scholl. "He was looking for an aggregator where he wanted to deepen a partnership relationship."

Among the first projects undertaken by Toolshed will be Roger McGuinn's "Limited Edition." The Orchard recently announced an exclusive digital distribution and promotion partnership with McGuinn (Billboard.Biz, March 30).
