Avid Technology, a digital media company for video, audio, games and broadcast professionals, has expanded its North Asia operations, based in Hong Kong.

Avid North Asia (Hong Kong) will oversee the expansion, handling sales and marketing functions of the company in Hong Kong, mainland China and Taiwan. It will also be responsible for market development for all products in North Asia.

According to Andrew Thornton, Avid Technology VP for the Asia-Pacific region, the decision to develop the company's North Asia operations from a Hong Kong base was based on the territory's free flow of information, rule of law, telecommunications infrastructure and geographic location.

Avid Technology is the parent company of Digidesign, which manufactures the Pro Tools platform for audio recording, editing, mixing and mastering.
