Former EMI Group finance director Tony Bates has been promoted at Colt Telecom Group plc to the new role as chief administrative officer, with effect from May 1.

Bates also takes a role on the board of directors at London-based Colt, a pan-European provider of business communication services and solutions.

In his new role Bates--who is currently interim chief financial officer at the company--will report to the Colt president/CEO. That post is expected to be filled by former British Telecommunications executive Jean-Yves Charlie following the surprise departure of incumbent Steve Akin, announced today.

Bates joined EMI Group plc in 1990, initially as finance director of EMI Records Ltd, rising to become both group finance director of EMI Group plc and executive VP of EMI Recorded Music. He exited EMI in May 2002.
