The iconic singer's hospitalization came a day before the Freedom Day concert in Pretoria to celebrate ten years of democracy in the country and the inauguration of President Thabo Mbeki for a second five-year term.

According to reports, Fassie's longtime producer Sello Chicco Twala cancelled his attendance at the event to be at her bedside.

The latest release in a career spanning two decades, "Brenda Fassie: The Remix Collection" (Virgin) is a collection of 11 remixes by such producers as A Man Called Adam, Dubtribe, Bent, 4 Hero, Norman Jay and Howie B.
