After a one-year stint in Miami, the Latin Grammy Awards will return to Los Angeles in 2004, Billboard.biz has learned. The 5th Annual Latin Grammy Awards will take place Sept. 1 at the Shrine Auditorium and will once again be broadcast live on CBS.

Additionally, the Latin Grammys will also air in approximately 100 countries. Nominees for the awards will be announced July 14. Two new categories -- best singer/songwriter album and best christian album (Portuguese language) -- have been added to the lineup, bringing the total to 43.

Winners are voted upon by members of the Latin Recording Academy, which includes Spanish and Portuguese-speaking recording artists and professionals.

The awards are produced in association with Cossette Productions, the same company that produces the Grammy Awards. The Latin Grammys started in Los Angeles, but organizers have said the awards would travel to other cities. New York and San Juan, Puerto Rico, had also lobbied to host.
