Stockholm-based Bonnier Music Publishing (BMP) has forged an alliance with publisher Gazell Music to represent the latter's catalog via a new division, Bonnier Gazell Music (BGM).

With immediate effect, BGM now handles some 60 international independent publishers' catalogs which were represented by Gazell in the Nordic and Baltic regions. They include Sugar, Mute, Gallo and Budde.

The pact was agreed jointly by Swedish industry veteran Dag Häggqvist--chairman and outright owner of Gazell Music in Stockholm--and his counterpart Lars Wiggman, who launched BMP in September 2003. Häggqvist also owns the Gazell Records indie label.

Wiggman becomes managing director of the new division, as one of three staff. BMP's parent Bonnier Amigo Music will provide "basic office and business service" to the new venture. No job losses are expected to occur at BMP. "This is a perfect match and an important step on the way to build Bonnier Music Publishing into a major independent music publishing company in Scandinavia and throughout the world," says Wiggman in a statement.

"The Bonnier Gazell alliance is ready, willing and able to become the leading independent music publisher in our part of the world," says Häggqvist.

Häggqvist joins the BMP as a member of the board and will act as consultant to the new operation. His Gazell Records label, formed with his long-time associate Rune Öfwerman in 1957, will continue to operate independently.
