Role-playing game among first to hit mobile market.

Mobile entertainment developer and publisher Sorrent Inc. is bringing Atari's "Baldur's Gate" franchise to wireless phones. The Dungeons & Dragons game has sold more than 2 million copies worldwide, and is among the first role-playing games to hit the mobile gaming space.

"We recognize in the early stages of mobile gaming, people want to play games that they
know," said Jill Braff, VP of marketing for the San Mateo, Calif.-based Sorrent.

Sorrent's distribution network includes international wireless carriers, such as Verizon Wireless, Sprint, AT&T Wireless, Cingular, Nextel, T-Mobile and others. Braff says Baldur's Gate will be available on over 100 handsets with color screens.
