Labels body the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) has recruited Geoff Taylor from the IFPI to take the role as general counsel, effective June 7. Taylor, who takes responsibilities for anti-piracy and legal issues, joins the BPI in London following the departure last month of director general Andrew Yeates. He is currently deputy general counsel and director of litigation & regulatory affairs at the IFPI.

At the same time, the BPI has confirmed the appointment of Steve Redmond as director of communications & development, with immediate effect. Redmond is a former editor and publisher of U.K. trade publication Music Week. He has worked on a consultancy basis with the trade body over the past 18 months.

The appointments form part of a restructuring at the trade body under its executive chairman Peter Jamieson, who describes the move as a "refocusing of the BPI's services to the record industry."
