Veteran Germany industry executive Jörg Hellwig has been appointed senior VP Music Division at the Munich headquarters of the newly-established BMG unit.

Veteran Germany industry executive Jörg Hellwig has been appointed senior VP Music Division at the Munich headquarters of the newly-established BMG unit.

With effect from May 17, Hellwig will be responsible for the major's international and domestic repertoire and will oversee its promotion/music services. He reports to Maarten Steinkamp, BMG international and Germany/Switzerland/Austria (GSA) president.

"I am very happy that we have been able to win Jörg for our BMG team, and that he will be supporting us in our strategic reorganization," says Steinkamp in a statement. "With his many years of experience, both in the national and international repertoire area, Jörg will be helping us to master the upcoming challenges, especially in repositioning BMG."

BMG Berlin Musik and GUN Records will continue to report to Steinkamp. The BMG-affiliates are respectively helmed by managing directors Andrè Selleneit and Wolfgang Funk.

Steinkamp says he will announce further changes within the BMG structure as a result of the departure in January of BMG GSA president Thomas Stein.

Hellwig started his career in 1979 as a junior product manager at classical label Teldec. In 1997, He was appointed managing director of Polydor in Germany, where he restructured its stable of domestic artists and oversaw the breakthrough of such international artists as Ronan Keating, the Lighthouse Family, André Rieu and Shaggy. He joined Hamburg-based independent label Edel Records as managing director in 2002, exiting late last year.
