Former Windswept Music managing director Bob Grace is joining forces with international booking agency the Agency Group (TAG), as Grace's recently formed Bay Songs Ltd. becomes the music-publishing entity of TAG.
Neil Warnock, managing director of TAG in London, tells Billboard.biz that the move by TAG into the publishing realm is at its heart an artist-development move. "We've got 50-odd agents out there all sourcing artists at the beginning of their careers," Warnock points out. "If the Agency Group decides we want to be in business with them, and they with us, the first thing we can guarantee them is live work. But we can also invest in helping them get to the next stage ... in [exchange] for intellectual rights in the future."
Warnock adds that TAG would also look at publishing deals with established artists when appropriate. "With all the changing times at labels and in the recording industry, the live side of the business is now the focal point," Warnock notes. "Live performance is now more critical than ever to artists and their managers ... than any other aspect of the business."
The Agency Group has offices in London, New York, Toronto, Los Angeles, Nashville and Scandinavia. It books tours for than 1,000 music clients worldwide, including such acts as Evanescence, 3 Doors Down, Creed, and Nickelback.
