Release slated for late fall.

Sony Classical has secured the rights for the upcoming original motion-picture soundtrack of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera," the company said today (May 20) at the Cannes Film Festival.

The soundtrack will feature a new song co-written for the film by composer/producer Webber and the original stage musical score's lyricist, Charles Hart. Longtime Webber collaborators Nigel Wright and Simon Lee are also working on the project, which was recorded at London's Abbey Road Studios.

The set is scheduled for a late fall release. The film, directed by Joel Schumacher, is slated to hit U.S. and U.K. theaters around Christmas.
