Roc-A-Fella Records has demonstrated its interest in the British urban music scene with its sponsorship of this year's U.K. Urban Music Seminar and the signing of the label's first-ever U.K. act.

The hip-hop label's CEO Damon Dash on Monday revealed the signing of London-based act SAS to coincide with the announcement that his company is key sponsor for this year's Urban Music Seminar, to be held at London's Royal Festival Hall, September 18-19.

"If I can make it here I can make it anywhere," says Dash of the United Kingdom. "And if I can bring this [act] to the U.S., there will be a global appreciation for the quality of U.K. hip hop."

SAS consists of brothers Mega and Mayhem, both of whom are from London's Eurogang collective, which has its own production company, BCP, and label, Scream Records.

The Urban Music Seminar (UMS) aims to educate up-and-coming British urban artists and industry professionals in the ways of the music business. Launched in 1999, it has steadily grown into a major event in the industry's calendar, with over 15,000 people passing through its doors last year. Past speakers have included Seal, Ms Dynamite and Megaman, but until now the U.S. presence has been limited.
