Hit producing duo the Trackboyz have signed a two-year label deal with Def Jam for Trackboyz Entertainment. This marks Island Def Jam Music Group chairman Antonio "L.A." Reid's first major deal since he joined the company from Arista Records this year.

The Trackboyz -- Joe "Capo" Kent and Mark "Tarboy" Williams -- have produced hits with such acts as D12, Nappy Roots, Angie Stone, Jermaine Dupri, J-Kwon, Trina and Nelly.

"Trackboyz already have an amazing and proven track record," Reid says. "They have a unique style and are naturals at creating hits and cultivating talent."

Comments Williams: "When 'L.A.' left Arista, we basically left with him. He was already a friend of ours. He always helped us out. When he went to Def Jam, we wanted to be under his umbrella."

Under the deal, the St. Louis-based duo will sign and develop talent as well as produce acts in the Island Def Jam Music Group. The production side is nonexclusive, and the Trackboyz will still work with other labels' artists.

"We're looking to sign talent from other places throughout the Midwest, from Milwaukee to Chicago -- wherever we can find talent," Williams said.

The deal with the Trackboyz also is part of Def Jam president Kevin Liles' overall strategy for the label.

"I don't just look at them as producers," Liles said. "I look at them more as song arrangers. They are two guys that are going to take this company to another place. They do more than just make beats; they know how to make songs, and they know how to bring the most out of an artist."
